Located on the south face of the Grandes Rousses, the winter sports resort of Alpe d’Huez benefits from a microclimate like no other. Also called “The Island in the Sunshine” due to its many hours of sunshine, it is ideal to ski with family or friends. With over 249km of marked pistes, the Alpe d’Huez has the longest piste in the world (16km starting from the Sarenne glacier), 2 snowparks, a slalom stadium and as many varied activites, whether in summer or winter : ice climbing, heliski, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, torchlit ski descents, quad, archery, and aviation... The cultural after-ski is very rich at the Alpe thanks to the famous international festival of comedic films and thanks also to the ice cave, which is at 2700m, sheltering ice sculpture and stained glass windows from the Notre-Dame Snow Church made by the painter ARCABAS.
